In this country, you gotta get the woman first. Then when you get woman, you get the sexy time. Then when you get the sexy time, then you get the family.

Some of you may recognize how this month’s feature tag line is similar to a famous quote from the movie Scarface. Shout out to Tony Montana. February hosts several special occasions in Ottawa/Ontario/worldwide. The month is home to Black History Month, Valentine’s Day, and Family Day, to name a few. We were lucky enough to have a few shoots surrounding Valentine’s Day and Family Day. Shout out to the Black History Month community who hosted many events to remind us of rich and historical cultures and celebrate the many achievements in Ottawa’s beautiful and thriving black community. Make sure to always sustain your culture[s] to ensure its resilience! urbanforest was also honoured with being showcased at February’s Hub & Spoke at Hub Ottawa on the last day of February. We were able to speak about the inspiration behind the initiative, where it stands now, and future goals and aspirations. Thank you Hub Ottawa for the opportunity and providing a social innovation centre for the nation’s capital.

During urbanforest’s inaugural photoshoot at ThimbleCakes back in January, Wendy and Ali showed us the joys of a romantic date and classic chivalry. With the signature red velvet cupcake, they indulged and demonstrated the innocence and excitement of a quaint rendezvous. Chivalry will always be appreciated and reciprocated properly, so fellas, don’t hold back! Young Janes provided sustainable fashion for the shoot, and Ef Magazine’s Editor-in-Chief, Malorie Bertrand, styled the shoot. Zena Saab, our house make-up artist, made everyone look great for the cameras, and house photographer, Gilbert Kimani, was behind the camera.

For your next special occasion or intimate date, please bring yourself to ThimbleCakes and take in the deliciousness of local, organic desserts! Your loved one will be impressed with your desire to feed them with wholesome sweets and support Ottawa’s local business community.

February has been an incredible, busy month! In the next week, we’ll be posting a few pieces following up from January’s feature post, as well as February’s feature post through Ef Magazine. Stay tuned, and thank you for tuning in.

Welcome to urbanforest’s blog!
Thimble Cakes is an organic cupcake bakery located at 369 Bank St. in Ottawa, Canada, and kindly hosted our first photoshoot. Present were local poet and radio host, Ali Alikhani, and Thimble Cakes owner, Wendy vanVelthoven as our models. Zena Saab from Beauty by Zena did a wonderful job on make-up for the models, and Malorie Bertrand, Editor-in-Chief for Ef Magazine, styled Ali and Wendy in sustainable fashion from Young Janes. Our house photographer, Gilbert Kimani, has another ongoing project called UGHtraction. The red velvet cupcake shown above, one of Thimble Cakes’ signature selections, was the main cupcake of choice in urbanforest’s first photoshoot. Super delicious!!
Thank you to everyone involved and stay tuned for ‘urbanforest @ Ef’ ~ released on the last day of every month. The photo gallery will feature everyday people from the Ottawa community dressed in sustainable fashion living and doing business in a sustainable/local/organic way.
Looking forward to demonstrating to you sustainable lifestyle and business best practices in Ottawa!
Peace, love & light ~ Ky
