saw this last night @HubOttawa — @ott_ecodistrict initiative, transforming dt core towards #sustainability!
"The age of green is upon us. We have reached a point in our human evolution where science, math, and creative genius have discovered a way to suspend a living forest in mid air. The answer to city pollution is now Stefano Boeri’s Bosco Verticale, the world’s first 27-story microclimate apartment towers currently under construction in Milan, Italy. Built to function as city air purifiers, these lush apartments will include over 900 trees, 5,000 bushes, and 11,000 plants throughout the tower balconies. Each perch of life will aid in reducing city noise, moderating atmospheric temperatures, absorbing CO2 emissions, and acting as an energy sustainer for seasonal weather shifts.
#Ottawa let’s have this for our city! This is truly what urbanforest is all about.
the beginnings of the Food Jungle garden project. a wide variety of seeds have been planted (all organic from local vendors), vertical garden structures are in the works (using diverted pallets), and rooftop gardening (on top of a home recording studio)! maximizing utility of space and resources for optimum harvest and harmony. welcome to urban forest. #urbanforest #foodjungle #verticalgarden #gardening #organic #food #Ottawa #sustainability #supportlocal
A sustainable future is not just an aspiration. Hub Ottawa and BioRegional, an innovative environmental organization, invite you to join us in a unique 4-hour workshop to create a One Planet Action Plan - a roadmap for creating a truly sustainable space at the Hub. The outcome will create a model in our region for 21st century lifestyles that meet the challenges of environmental, social, and economic sustainability.
We’ll be using the ten One Planet Living Principles ~ http://www.oneplanetvision.org/one-planet-living/opl-framework/
This will be an inspiring and amazing experience, hope to see you there!
Welcome to urbanforest’s blog!
Thimble Cakes is an organic cupcake bakery located at 369 Bank St. in Ottawa, Canada, and kindly hosted our first photoshoot. Present were local poet and radio host, Ali Alikhani, and Thimble Cakes owner, Wendy vanVelthoven as our models. Zena Saab from Beauty by Zena did a wonderful job on make-up for the models, and Malorie Bertrand, Editor-in-Chief for Ef Magazine, styled Ali and Wendy in sustainable fashion from Young Janes. Our house photographer, Gilbert Kimani, has another ongoing project called UGHtraction. The red velvet cupcake shown above, one of Thimble Cakes’ signature selections, was the main cupcake of choice in urbanforest’s first photoshoot. Super delicious!!
Thank you to everyone involved and stay tuned for ‘urbanforest @ Ef' ~ released on the last day of every month. The photo gallery will feature everyday people from the Ottawa community dressed in sustainable fashion living and doing business in a sustainable/local/organic way.
Looking forward to demonstrating to you sustainable lifestyle and business best practices in Ottawa!
Peace, love & light ~ Ky
